More Backyard Hummers

So all the migrating hummingbirds have passed through.  I still have my local birds.  I was getting the pool ready for me to be gone for a week, and the birds were very active.  Enough that I had to stop and go inside and grab the 100-400 and shoot some hand held shots.

My business trip have a couple travel glitches so I edited photos at the airport and on the plane.

If you know me by now, you know I don’t like feeder shots.  The alpha male is super hard to capture on a flower with his groget showing. Couple feeder shots.

Backyard Hummingbirds

I have been growing my hummingbird garden for 5 seasons now.  This year it is really producing.  Had at least 10 – 12 adults birds all summer since March.  Now there are also Northern birds migrating through and it is crazy busy out there.  I had not been shooting much, but way too much action to sit this out.

Trumpet Vine

Firecracker or Cigar Plant

Coral Honeysuckle

I still don’t have a full-frame keeper of a male in a flower.  Here are some males displaying their gorget.  Here is an adult and a juvenile displaying.

And just for fun a bonus Bumble Bee in the Desert Willow.

I have invited a couple local photographers over tomorrow morning, so should be some more hummingbird photos to follow.
