I am going to have to set up a couple remote flashes to really light these guys properly.

Life is good and I am blessed.
You MAY not have had a flash, but that was a Great Photo!! Never saw one of that coloring before.
Black Chinned Hummingbirds have expanded their range into North Texas and only been seen here for the last 3 or 4 years.
Have you tried a Better Beamer for your flash? This looks like a possible application.
I have a better beamer and have used them in the past on Eagles and Hummingbirds. I was trying to avoid using them as I am just now getting several hummers coming into my feeders and flowers. Some times I feel the Better Beamer turn the bird or will frighten them away. I’ll break it out in a couple weeks right when they are getting ready to leave for the winter. Hoping that the long winter they forget the flash but remember the feeders. 🙂
